TEHRAN (IQNA) – A member of presiding board of Bahrain’s Ulama (scholars) Council said holding peaceful rallies is a key strategy of the Bahraini people to see their demands met and their legitimate rights restored.

Speaking to IQNA, Sheikh Mohammad Hassan Khojasteh hailed the 7th anniversary of the Bahraini people’s uprising and said the people of the Arab country are at a historical moment in pursuit of their legitimate demands.

He said the seventh anniversary of the revolution is being marked at a time when the ruling regime’s moves such as revoking the citizenship of political and rights activists, trying civilians in military courts and the grave condition of political prisoners have strengthened the people’s resolve to insist on their demands.

He also slammed a recent court ruling to revoke the citizenship of Sheikh Isa Qassim, the spiritual leader of Bahrain’s Shia majority.

Sheikh Khojasteh criticized the ruler of the Persian Gulf country for following the Zionists and pursuing the policy of normalizing ties with the occupying regime of Israel, saying the Bahraini nation will resist such a move.

The issue of Palestine and Holy Quds (Jerusalem) is a pivotal and fundamental issue for Bahrainis and will never be abandoned, he stressed.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Peaceful Rallies, Bahraini’s Strategy to Reach Demands

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.
