TEHRAN (IQNA) –  August 21 marks the anniversary of the 1969 al-Aqsa Mosque fire set by the Zionists.

The day has been named at Iran’s suggestion by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the World Mosque Day in remembrance of the event.

Speaking to IQNA about the World Mosque Day, Hojat-ol-Islam Habib Reza Arzani, secretary of the Supreme Headquarters of Cultural and Art Centers of Mosques, noted that it both highlights the importance of the sanctity of mosques for Muslims and the fact that the issue of Quds and Palestine are the main issue in the Islamic world.

He noted that various religious, art and cultural programs are planned to be held in Iran in the following days to mark the World Mosque Day.

They include the closing ceremony of the Karamat Popular Festival and a short film festival featuring mosques, the cleric added.
