Quran Contest for Children Held in Karbala
According to al-Kafeel website, 8 teams from different parts of the country, each comprising five contenders, competed in the Quranic event.
They are all Quran students taking part in the Amir-ul-Qura Quranic plan initiated by the Dar-ol-Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine.
The competition was held in three stages and included recitation of the Quran in the Iraqi and Egyptian styles, imitating prominent Qaris, and knowledge of Quranic words and terms.
The Amir-ul-Qura plan is implemented under the supervision of the Center for Training Quran Reciters and Memorizers.
The main objective of the Quranic plan is to help raise a generation of Quran reciters in a short period of time based on modern teaching methods.
Students of elementary and secondary schools in different parts of the Arab country participate at the annual Quranic program during the summer vacations.
Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq in recent years, since the fall of former dictator Saddam Hussein’s regime.
