TEHRAN (IQNA) – The assassination of top Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh by the Zionist regime’s agents shows Tel Aviv’s fear of Iran’s growing capabilities in the technological and defense fields, the spokesman of Iraq’s Kata'ib Hezbollah said.

Speaking to IQNA, Muhammed Mohyee said Israel’s fear of Iran’s growing scientific and technological development is obvious in this act of terrorism.

He said the assassination took place at a time when US president-elect Joe Biden’s transition to power is under way, noting that the timing of the terrorist move means an attempt to create insecurity in the region.

Mohyee also stressed that the Zionist regime was not the only one behind the assassination but the US and Saudi Arabia have also colluded in this heinous act.

He defended Iran’s right to retaliate so that Israel and others involved in this criminal act realize that they will have to pay a heavy price for such moves.

However, he said, Iran should consider the complicated situation in the region and the world and avoid entering into an all-out war that Israel and Saudi Arabia seek to enflame.

Fakhrizadeh, who headed the Iranian Defense Ministry’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), was targeted on Friday in a multi-pronged attack involving at least one explosion and small fire by a number of assailants in Absard city of Damavand County, Tehran Province.

Iranian government officials and military commanders have hinted that the Israeli regime could have been behind the terror attack, vowing harsh revenge against all the criminals involved.
