Quran memorizers from 18 countries, including the host nation, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Iran, Somalia, Serbia, France, Norway, Malaysia, Qatar, Jordan, the US, Spain, Kuwait and Oman, are taking part in the international Quranic event.
They compete in two categories, namely memorization of the entire Quran and memorization of half of the Quran.
Sina Tabbakhi is representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the memorization of the entire Quran category. He left Tehran for Zagreb earlier in the day.
Quran experts from Croatia, France, North Macedonia, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina form the panel of Judges.
The competition has been organized by Croatia’s Muslim Affairs Organization in cooperation with Qatar’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry, the Islamic Society of Zagreb and the secretariat of the European Competitions on Memorization and Recitation of the Quran.
The annual contest was not held last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the 26th edition, organized in 2019, Iran’s representatives came first and second in the recitation and memorization categories respectively.
