TEHRAN (IQNA) – A group of Indian Muslims helped to perform the funeral of a Hindu man in Madurai.

In a heart-warming gesture, a group of Muslims, including members of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), came together on Saturday to perform the final rites of a Hindu man who died of illness.

Sarathy, 45, of Kalmedu, passed away at a hospital on Friday afternoon due to kidney failure.

He was separated from his wife and had a son and daughter of schoolgoing age.

He had been living with aged parents but they themselves were ill as well.

When Muslims residing nearby, including members of Social Democratic Party of India and from the jamath, got to know about Sarathy's passing, they made arrangements to bring his body from hospital to his house.

On Saturday, the Muslim men also ensured that his final rites and burial were performed according to Hindu traditions at the Kalmedu cemetery here.

"Often, people like Sarathy, who is a mere daily wage labourer and from a downtrodden community, has no support from family or society. However, in death, no one should be left alone. In our religion, all humans are equal and so we came forward to help," said Sikkandar, a coordinator of Social Democratic Party of India.
