TEHRAN (IQNA) – The imam and preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque called on Muslim countries to take measures to force the Zionist regime of Israel to sops its aggressions on Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Sheikh Akrama Sabri

Sheikh Akrama Sabri made the remark after scores of Israeli settler fanatics guarded by police broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem al-Quds on Sunday.

He said the Israeli regime is testing Muslim world public opinion’s patience by its aggressions and unless there is strong reaction, these aggressions will continue, Palestine Today reported.

He said Arabs and Muslims’ silence over the developments in Al-Aqsa is unacceptable, adding that just condemning the Israeli regime’s moves is not enough.

Real pressure on the Zionist regime is needed to force it to stop the provocations, Sheikh Sabri underlined.

The Israeli settlers entered the compound through the Moroccan Gate in groups on Sunday and performed rituals and Talmudic prayers there under the protection of Israeli forces.

Since 2003, the Israeli occupation authorities have been allowing settlers into the compound almost on a daily basis, with the exclusion of Friday, the Muslim day of rest and worship.

Israel captured East Jerusalem al-Quds, where Al-Aqsa Mosque is located, during the Six-Day War in 1967 in a move never recognized by the international community.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Najeh Bakirat, who heads the Al-Aqsa Waqf and Heritage Academy, called for staging sit-ins at Al-Aqsa and resistance against the Israeli regime’s plots in al-Quds.

Sheikh Bakirat said the Israeli regime tries to keep the holy city and Al-Aqsa Mosque in tension and encourages settlers to illegally enter the compound.

Warning that Tel Aviv seeks to destroy all Islamic and Arabic symbols in al-Quds, he stressed that the Muslim Ummah must fulfil its responsibilities in defending Al-Aqsa Mosque.
