“Madinah; Cultural Capital of the World of Islam” Plan to Begin

“Madinah; cultural Capital of the World of Islam in 2013” Plan will begin tomorrow, December 17, in Saudi Arabia.


According to Sha’r news agency, secretary of the plan has announced various programs and activities including festivals, educational workshops and exhibitions on the occasion.



A cultural-social festival of “Students of Islamic University and Nations' Cultures” is to be organized tomorrow in which the non-Saudi students residing in Saudi Arabia will introduce their national cultures.



A workshop titled “Chambers of Nabi (PBUH)” will be held tomorrow night at khaimah Al-Ateeq Hall near Meridien Hotel in the holy city.



The workshop has been planned in line with programs of “ The Historical Atlas of Nabawi Seerah” Plan to be held in cooperation with Research and Studie Center of Madinah.



A scientific festival on” the World Day of Arabic Language in Madinah Munawwarah; the Cultural Capital of the world of Islam” will be another program of the plan to be held on Wednesday, December 18.



The festival will be organized by the Education and Training Office of Madinah.



The plan will continue with three more exhibitions titled “Mohammad Rasulollah (PBUH)”, “Asma-ol-husna” near the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Mosque and “Madinah; refuge of faith” near Quba Mosque.



The exhibitions will host visitors daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time



2005 A.D. witnessed the selection of Mecca as a capital of Islamic culture, while Aleppo was crowned with this title in 2006 A.D. for the Arab Region, Asfahan for Asia, and Timbuktu in Mali for the African Region.

As well, Tripoli in Libya was selected for this title in 2007,Fes and Tashkent for the Asian Region,Dakar for Agrica,while Alexandria, Lahor, and Djibuti in 2008,beside Kairouan, Azerbaijani Baku, Malysian Kuala lumpur, Chadian N'Djamena in 2009.



Yemeni Tarim,Tajik  Dushanbe, Comoros Moroni were capitals for the Islamic culture in 2010 A.D.,as well we as selecting Telmcen in Algeria, Nouakchott in Muritania, and Indonesian Jakarta, and Conakry in Guinea in 2011.

Also, Najaf was selected as a capital of the Islamic culture for the Arab Religion, Dhaka and Niamey for 2012,in addition to Al Madinah Al Munawwarah in 2013,Sharjah for 2014,and Nizwa in Sultanate of Oman in 2015.
