TEHRAN (IQNA) – Two Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) leaders were killed Wednesday in an artillery shelling by the Popular Mobilization Forces in the Syrian city of Al-Baghuz on the border with Iraq.

“Artillery shells were fired against three hotbeds of Daesh near the Syrian city of Al-Baghuz, leaving two Daesh leaders dead,” Alghad Press website quoted deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces as saying in a statement, Iraqi News reported.

On Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi stressed the need for tightening security along the border with neighboring Syria to eradicate terrorist groups scattered there.

In December, former Iraqi premier Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Daesh since 2014.

However, Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the Arab country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
