Quran Contest for Men, Women to Kick Off in Dubai Today

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 23rd edition of the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran competition will get underway in the United Arab Emirates today.

The Quranic event for men and women will run in separate locations in Dubai for five days, the Sayidati website reported.

According to Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and chairman of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) organizing committee, two panels of judges for men and women have been formed to assess the performances of the contenders.

He said the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran competition is one of the main Quranic events organized by the DIHQA annually.

He added that the contest is aimed at encouraging the UAE’s citizens and expatriates to learn, memorize and read the Quran and act upon its teachings.

Participants in the competition are required to have a strong knowledge of Tajweed rules.

The categories of the event include memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 20 Juzes (parts), memorization of 10 Juzes, memorization of five Juzes (for Emirati citizens), memorization of five Juzes (for over 10-year-old residents), and memorization of three Juzes citizens above 10 years old.
